Fading Glass Breakage

TINTBUYER.COM FREE GUIDE
Fading, Glass Breakage, and Seal Failure

  • Fade reduction is the #2 reason people consider window film, ranked only behind reducing solar heat gain.
  • Concern that the window film may cause glass breakage or seal failure (in dual pane windows) is likely the #1 reason people fear installing window film.

The purpose of this FREE GUIDE is to address these important considerations.

FADING

It is a fact that installing window film can dramatically reduce fading of your important furnishings.  However, the reasons are more complex than first meets the eye.  Most people understand UV radiation (see Glossary for definition) but do not realize UV radiation is responsible for less than half of the total potential for fading.  Specifically, heat and visible light are each responsible for about 25% of the potential for fading.  Therefore, if you want maximum reduction in fading potential, you are going to have to balance your need for visible light (it is a window after all!) and your need for reduction in fading potential.

GLASS BREAKAGE AND SEAL FAILURE

In the last decade, Tintbuyer.com has had hundreds of concerned clients – worried that if they install window film they will lose the existing warranty from their window manufacturer.  The short answer is often “yes, you will” because the window manufacturer has written language that voids their warranty if anything is applied to the windows.  The more accurate answer is that most film manufacturers will match the existing remaining window warranty because window film manufacturers realize this as just a ploy by the window manufacturers to get you to buy only replacement windows.

In addition, window manufacturer’s warranties are often extremely limited in scope and only available to the original homeowner.  Therefore, if you are the 2nd owner you probably don’t have any remaining warranty in any case.

Ask your Tintbuyer.com independent installer for more information about their Glass Breakage and/or Seal Failure Warranty programs.
